Robin Vollert has taken over as Managing Director of Swegon Group UK & Ireland following the retirement of Kevin Munson.
Industry veteran Mr Munson was appointed MD in 2003 having previously served as Sales Director of the air distribution, fire and smoke control, natural ventilation, chiller and filtration group. He steered the business, latterly known as Ruskin Air Management, through a number of changes of ownership before it was acquired by Swegon in 2016.
Positive attitude is key
“This is a great industry and I have loved every minute of my career. Some people might question if it is possible to say that with all the everyday stresses and strains, but it is all about having a positive attitude and focussing on the opportunities," said Mr Munson, who first joined the industry in 1985 with Sound Attenuators in Colchester. "There have been some amazing technological developments during my time and these have opened up new markets and new possibilities for our products and our expertise.
“For example, the increased focus on indoor air quality as a result of greater awareness of its influence on human health has had a dramatic impact on our industry in recent years.”
Time for change
However, he said now was the right time for him to hand over the reins as the company was embarking on a five-year strategic growth plan and needed management continuity to see that through.
“The transition to being part of the Swegon Group has gone well and we have already seen the benefits,” said Mr Munson. “It now makes sense for me to hand over to Mr Vollert, who has in-depth knowledge of the UK and Irish markets. He has also been working with me for more than a year so already knows our company very well.”
Mr Vollert, who has moved across from his position as Sales Vice President at Swegon Group in Sweden, paid tribute to Mr Munson and thanked him for his long and dedicated service.
“Kevin has done a fantastic job and deserves to enjoy a wonderful and long retirement. He leaves the company in great shape and poised to embark on its next phase of growth.”
Mr Vollert spent 16 years with IMI’s indoor climate division before joining Swegon in 2013. He is a member of the international group’s main board and will now be based in London.
Exciting times ahead
“The UK and Ireland will play an important part in that growth and we see some great opportunities to grow existing product lines into new markets, launch new product lines, as well as consolidating in the areas where we are already strong. We want to do our very best to offer a superior customer experience" said Mr Vollert.
As well as the former Ruskin brands: Actionair; Air Diffusion; Naco and Airfiltrera, Swegon have also recently acquired the Safegard Systems damper control specialist based in Ireland and, already in 2013, the Coolmation chiller, service and hire business – all of which now fall under the Swegon Group UK and Ireland umbrella.
The ultimate owner of the Swegon Group is the multi-national Investment company AB Latour, which takes a long-term approach to growing businesses through investments in new products, international expansion, and acquisitions.
“We, therefore, have the strength from a solid owner to support us to move forward and achieve our growth plans".
